Private tutor in East Islip, NY
Education
I graduated with an BA in English from SUNY Old Westbury, and obtained a Masters of Science in English education and Special Education, grades 7-12. Member of English National Honor Society, Masters with distinction.
Experience
I have privately tutored for the better part of 5 years, working mostly with students with disabilities. I have prepared students for the RCT in Reading and and Writing (the test is generally no longer given now), the ACT, and the English Regents (both Common Core and Comprehensive). I help students create strong college essays, develop test taking strategies (for big tests and just tests in school), study/organizational skills, etc. All skills developed are monitored and treated as if they were on the students IEP. I really enjoy tutoring because of the 1:1, or at least very small group, ratio. It is a lovely treat to be able to work closely with students and provide them the individualized attention they logistically aren't getting in a room with 20+ other students. I enjoy meeting all of the unique students and their families. I have had a lot of success with my clients, and I almost become part of the family. I have been working in schools in some capacity for about 5 years now. I am still young and energetic, but have had enough experience to know the current reality of education. As part of my experience, I have acquired so many great ideas for tips and tricks, I have gone through all the tests mentioned with a fine tooth comb, looking for ways to make them easier, and less daunting, for our students. The effort I put in will be evident.
